Glutathione Overview

Glutathione and Aging

The easiest surest way (to live an extra decade or two): "Increase your body's supply of glutathione." Dr. David Williams

Low glutathione levels are a primary risk factor for most degenerative diseases.

Your risk of having low glutathione sharply increases when you:

  • Exercise aggressively
  • Live in a toxic environment
  • Experience stress
  • Take prescription drugs
  • Eat poorly
  • Don't get enough sleep

People who live long almost always have high glutathione levels. If glutathione levels are low, the scientific evidence is conclusive: you will experience more disease and die sooner. A research study on people 60+ show that a 20% higher level of glutathione resulted in 1/3 less disease in the studied population.

In today's environment of high toxins and high stress, you cannot afford to leave to chance the levels of glutathione within your body.

Glutathione and Science

The importance of glutathione is well documented by medical research. As a product naturally produced by the body, it plays a multitude of critical, well documented roles in maintaining the health of the body. Unfortunately it's importance is still largely ignored by the medical community. Solid science exists identifying low glutathione levels as a primary factor triggering the degeneration that leads to most major degenerative diseases (Over 77,000 medical research articles are published about glutathione)

Missing Science: Little effort has been focused on researching whether higher glutathione levels can restore health lost through the lack of adequate glutathione. For example tests have been conducted on mice showing that a drop in glutathione will cause high blood pressure within 2 weeks. Yet I could not find research showing whether or not increased glutathione could reverse high blood pressure.

What is clear is that low glutathione levels play a major role in creating degenerative disease. With recent research (Double blind studies have documented an average 292% increases in glutathione being achieved within 2 months thorough a nutritional product that became available in 2007) showing a validated way of improving glutathione levels, research is starting to emerge identifying it's benefits to people suffering from various degenerative disease.

How Can it Affect My Health?

Glutathione is produced by the body and plays a role in your health as important as that of blood. If you run too low on glutathione you will die. Unfortunately many doctors do not even know that it exists. Individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Decreased levels of glutathione can be brought about by continual stress upon the immune system, poor food, low sleep, toxins in your body etc. As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease. This is a ferocious cycle. While you need glutathione for a productive immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione.

"No other antioxidant is as important to overall health as glutathione. It is the regenerator of immune cells and the most valuable detoxifying agent in the body. Low levels are associated with early aging and even death." The Immune System Cure, Lorna R. Vanderhaeghe & Patrick J.D. Bouic, Ph.D

What is Glutathione Anyways?

Simply put, glutathione (GSH) is the body's master antioxidant and primary protector against cellular degeneration. It is a small protein produced naturally in every single cell in the body when certain required elements are present. It is estimated to be 5000 times more powerful than any other antioxidant. It functions both as an antioxidant and an antitoxin and is a major defense system against illness and aging. It plays a critical role in the liver enabling the cleansing process to work properly.

Our glutathione level actually indicates our state of health and can predict longevity. Although there are more than 77,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione replacement, it is still largely ignored by mainstream medicine. In the near future the importance of glutathione will be widely recognized because it's critical role in boosting the immune system and fighting off the damage of free radicals on the cells.

Why Does It Affect So Many Diseases?

Degenerative disease is basically the failure of cells to function properly. Degenerative disease happens at the cellular level. When glutathione levels are low, massive failure/damage happens at the cellular level: within all cells, all parts of the body.

It Prevents Uncontrolled Fire: The energy that every cell creates to do the work they were designed to do is generated by many small fires (chemical reactions involving oxygen). In our homes we only start fires in controlled locations (furnaces, stoves etc.). If we don't, we burn our houses down. Glutathione controls these fires (chemical reactions) in each cell, It keeps the fires under control and stops degenerative damage within each cell. If glutathione is low, the fires are not properly controlled and cellular damage results (cells degenerate as their chemical structures are re-arranged.)

Cellular Energy: Every cell needs energy to do it's work. Glutathione is essential to keep cellular furnaces (mitochondrion) burning brightly. If the furnaces don't produce the energy your cell needs, the cell cannot properly do it's job. Every action in the body is performed by cells. Hence glutathione affects the proper functioning of every cell and therefore probably plays a role in every disease.

Prevents Toxic Interference: Glutathione is the body's garbage man, responsible for cleaning the toxins and waste from the body. If the glutathione system is under-performing, toxic material remains and interferes with the body's health.

Greater Immunity: Glutathione is involved in the manufacture and energy within the white blood cells that play a vital role in the immune system. Research has also shown that the T-cells start to malfunction when glutathione levels are low. Optimum glutathione levels are essential for a strong immune system.

DNA Protection: DNA can be easily damaged when glutathione levels drop. When DNA is damaged, the formula for re-creation of a new cell is corrupted. Test have been conducted showing that a 45% reduction in glutathione results in a 30% increase in DNA damage. Cancer could not happen.

It's Many Health Benefits (a summary)
Glutathione has been shown to slow down the aging process, detoxify the body and improve liver function, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the chances of developing cancer. Glutathione also works to help improve mental functions, increase energy, improve concentration, permit increased exercise, and improve heart and lung function - just to name a few.
Quotes From the Experts

"Your life depends on glutathione. Without it, your cells would disintegrate from unrestrained oxidation, your body would have little resistance to bacteria, viruses and cancer, and your liver would shrivel up from the eventual accumulation of toxins." Glutathione: Essential Health AID - Antioxidant. Immune Booster. Detoxifier, Dr. Jimmy Gutman, MD, FACEP

"Glutathione has potent anti-viral properties - if you raise the glutathione level you can stop the replication of most any, at least, intracellular pathogen....but glutathione deficiency produces a pro-viral effect." Dr. Paul Cheney, transcribed from a workshop presentation on the clinical management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

"Glutathione levels also diminish as we age and many diseases normally associated with aging have been linked to glutathione deficiency." Glutathione: Essential Health AID - Antioxidant. Immune Booster. Detoxifier, Dr. Jimmy Gutman, MD, FACEP

It is well known that aging is accompanied by a precipitous fall in glutathione levels. Lower glutathione levels are implicated in many diseases associated with aging, including cataracts, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's, atherosclerosis and others.

Self-Education is Key

This web site is dedicated to educating you on the importance of glutathione and the many ways it affects your health. Until recently, little could be done to significantly raise the body's complete glutathione protection system. As a result little research was done to create absolute proof about the effect that improving the glutathione system would have various diseases . However lots of research had been done on the damage caused by low levels of glutathione. Logic would tell us that if low glutathione is a major cause of the problem, improving glutathione should make a difference. The good news is improving glutathione levels is a very simple thing to do (see Replenishing Glutathione). Unfortunately we will have to wait until more research is completed before knowing how it affects particular diseases.

Fortunately the results of improving glutathione levels are beginning to be reported. Doctor's involved in the study have stated that the ability to improve glutathione may be one of the most important discoveries in recent medical science. So until research is complete on any issues related to your health, it is up to you. Over 77,000 medical research article exist on glutathione. This web site is focused on finding, organizing and pointing you in the right direction so you can more easily discover for yourself the benefits of raising glutathione levels. As the site is still in development, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Motivation for Creating GlutathioneNews: In September 08 I heard about glutathione, The first question I asked myself was how could something so important and significant be real and yet be largely unknown by most of the population? So the first thing I looked for was evidence that glutathione could have such a radical impact on health. Then I found my first real clue:. a video showing a radical improvement of mobility in several parkinson patients (see video) . Fifteen minutes after injecting glutathione, Parkinson patients had a noticeable change in their ability to walk normally. I was convinced that I was looking into something well worth further effort.

As I checked further I became convinced that the information I was uncovering needed to be categorized and made available to others. As a result of doing my research I have become an active promoter of products that boost Glutathione. I hope you find this site helpful

Disclaimer. This site represents my personal conclusions as a result of the research I have done. I have, and will continue to provide links to the source documents that led me to these conclusions. Nothing on this site is to be considered medical advice or recommendations for how to treat disease.

Glutathione's Role
MAJOR IMMUNE SYSTEM BUILDER
Glutathione levels affect the strength of the immune system.

CHIEF DETOXIFICTION AGENT
Glutathione enables your body to remove toxic chemicals from the body. With low glutathione, the detoxification process is greatly hindered

PRIMARY ANTIOXIDANT PROTECTOR
Glutathione is the most powerful protein protecting the cells from oxidative damage. It is thousands of times more important and powerful than any other antioxidant. If glutathione is low, all the antioxidants start to malfunction and antioxidant protection starts to disappear

 INCREASES ENERGY
Glutathione is necessary to keep the energy engines of the body clean . If glutathione is low energy production in every cell decreased and each cell cannot function the way it was designed to function.

POWERFUL INFLAMATION FIGHTER
Glutathione plays a critical role in reducing inflammation within the body. Inflammation is a primary cause of degenerative disease.

IMPROVES QUALITY OF LIFE
Restoring glutathione levels will make a significant improvement in the quality of life for most individuals.
